SkinnyGirls

Tonight Jessyca and I went to Denny's with our moms. But we had to sit at a different table so that they could talk....at least we got our dinners paid for!!!

Anyway, one of our many topics over two superbirds and a salad was how annoying it is to be skinny girls. And by that we mean we don't get to join into the conversation with other girls about what we may or may not like about our bodies. If we say we like something about ourselves and express it then we sound like stuck up snobs. And if we even dare to complain about things that we don't like....it's not usually a pretty sight.

It's not that we agree with how society treats women; that we are not worth anything unless we have a certain bust, waist, and hip size, but it's annoying when our own sisters turn on us too. Apparently we have no right to complain about our bodies.

I have no idea what it is like to deal with having an overweight problem...my issue was always gaining weight. And I never wore anything but pants and jeans for the longest time because everyone would make fun of how skinny my legs were. Everyone notices if you've put on or lost any weight and they think that just because your skinny and not overweight that it's not a sensitive issue and they can comment on it. You're always being told to eat, put some meat on your bones, or whatever. Trust me, a lot of skinny girls can and do eat!

I think my main point is that whether you are over or under weight you can be traumatized by other peoples perceptions of how you look. And I'm tired of my sisters who ostracize us skinny girls just because they don't understand the pressures of being skinny, of trying to be more perfect, of trying to live up to a standard that we didn't chose for ourselves.

We are all beautiful, overweight, underweight, and everything in between. Maybe we should learn to acknowledge our good attributes instead of complaining about what we wished we looked like.

Ok..I'm begining to understand how my brother and grandmother and uncle can spend hours on the computer and never even notice that the day has come and gone. No wonder Brent sometimes forgets to eat....I forgot to eat!!!
But my point in posting again for today was because of this quote:David Duchovney's blog, House of D;

"a movie is like a child. you nurture it and support it but one day it has to leave home and make it on its own."
David Duchovne
Like a Child (Friday, April 15, 2005)
I just thought this was a really awesome quote, from a really awesome guy, about a really awesome subject.
Ok, I do know other words besides really and awesome. And apparently I don't know anyother words besides Ok.
David....I'll keep this wisdom in mind whenever I get my chance at making films!!!

You Are 45% Left Brained, 55% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.

Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.

If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.

Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.

Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.

If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.

Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

Ok, this is the last one of these that I am going to do for awhile now. But I thought this one was interesting, especially since it proves what I've always thought about myself. I'm pretty much left and right brained. But I lean more towards the creative. My tendency is to think symbolically before logically. But I have a heard time making decisions simply on emotion and gut feeling, it also has to make sense. Maybe some people would want to be both brained.....but I can find it annoying at times. Do I go with my intuition or my logic? Which one is right? Are they both right? What is a better way to live? I still can't decide.

Manners/etiquette

"Manners and etiquette are for those who cannot be real".

Charles is an interesting character. I don't think I could ever have written or conceived a personality like his. He always comes back with comments that make you think. I'm not sure that I agree with this one today...but I do find it fascinating. So, I thought I'd explore it a little bit.

Manners: social conduct or rules of conduct as shown in the prevalent customs

Etiquette: the conduct or procedure required by good breeding or prescribed by authority to be observed in social or official life

The common word in definition is "conduct", which makes sense. Basically an accepted way of acting towards others. No...now I know that I disagree with his statement. It's the content that tells you how real or disillusioned someone might be. However, I think what Charles was getting at is that people get caught up in what is proper or polite. Those people have a hard time being real. For example I still have a hard time letting my mother know that I disagree with her. I've spent too much time dancing on eggshells around her that I sometimes wonder if I've let her get to know the 'real' me. What a disservice to people. And what an art form; learning how to be real and proper at the sametime. A lost art for many. I wonder if society just thought that it wasn't worth it? Or maybe there should just be a balance between social continuity and not being afraid to rock the boat occasionally. I look at today's culture and think that we rock the boat too much. Everything we do or say has to be so shocking. I wonder if we'll sink this ship.
